This month, we remember John Furman.
Born February 6,1805, he was the son of John and Ruth Ackerly Furman, husband of Freelove Hulse and father of Mary Elizabeth, Joel Nelson, Caroline Ann (Kemp), Salem, Jeanette (Norton), John Thomas and James Lewis. He died on January 3, 1872, the obituary from The South Side Signal newspaper reads as follows : "On Wednesday afternoon as Jno. Furman, one of our esteemed citizens, was returning home from the village and just as he was opposite Oliver Wick's house in Ocean Avenue, he was seen to fall. Some of his friends went to assist him, supposing he had slipped and fell; but they found him dead. He was carried home, and a Coroner summoned; but it was not deemed necessary to hold an inquest, as he undoubtedly died from heart disease."
