March Person To Remember- edited version

My apologies! I uploaded the wrong photo earlier...easy to do if you have as many pictures of headstones as I have. The photo below shows how the headstone is situated currently.

Maria Antoinette Conklin

Maria Antoinette (Nettie) Conklin was born on February 6, 1850, in Brookhaven, New York to Moses Alva Conklin and Nancy Catherine Smith.  Her grandfather, Peter Smith, was a drummer boy in The War of 1812 and her father was a veteran who enlisted at age 41, and was wounded in The Civil War.

She had three brothers and two sisters and died on March 27, 1872, in Patchogue, at the age of 22.  She was never married and had no known children.

Her headstone reads:

Maria Antoinette

Daughter of Moses A and Nancy C

Died March 27, 1872 Age 22 yrs. 1 mo. & 17 Days

Dearest Nettie thou has left us, Jesus called and you must go, But we hope one day to meet you, In that world thats free from woe.

Her headstone is currently flat on the ground in The Union section of the cemetery in an area that is slated for continued restoration this year.  Your donations can help us to professionally reset her large, unusual headstone.

Please consider helping us.
