Revolutionary War Patriot Found!

This summer, professionals from Stewart Preservation were hard at work restoring historic headstones that our volunteers cannot. As part of this work, we were pleased to locate the headstones of three Revolutionary War Patriots that we had feared were lost.
This is the headstone of Barbara Mott, wife of John Mott. The stone was broken, presumably set on the base seen on the left of the photograph below. While this photo, taken some time ago by Find A Grave contributor Aislin, does show that she was married to a John Mott, it's not clear it was the John Mott we were looking for. As part of this summer's work, we found not only a two tier base for this stone but...

that the headstone was quite a bit longer than was apparent before the restoration work began. The headstone was epoxied back together and set on its original base.

Newly epoxied stones need time to set and cure. This morning, volunteers gently cleaned it and discovered that John Mott, Revolutionary War Patriot was laid to rest with his wife Barbara and three of their grandchildren.

Watch this space for more stories of the many discoveries and rediscoveries made this summer! Please consider making a tax-deductible donation to enable Friends of Lakeview to continue this important work!
